C is for Cookie

A week or so ago I received this plate with cookies from my good friend Shauna who was a roommate from back in my single days. They were delicious and such a fun thing to receive in the mail. I mean come on, who wouldn't love to receive cookies??? It was actually a warm day when they arrived and after being in the mail truck all day they arrived as if they had just been pulled out of the oven. Yummy. Well, I have sent the plate on to it's next destination and one of my lucky blog friends will be receiving cookies very soon. The cookies I sent have milk chocolate and peanut butter chips in them. The plate is one of those that you pass on and spread the love. If you want one you can click on this link. http://www.pleasesendcookies.com/Default.aspx

A very talented young lady

My niece Torrin was selected as 1 of 4 dance finalists to compete in a Young Artists Competition at the Herberger Theatre. I have mentioned before how amazing she is!!!! Let me just say it again - Dang, this girl can dance! I love to see her in action, my heart just swells with pride. She won the People's Choice award and we were so happy to be there to support her.

Happy Birthday Tatum

It has been so fun to watch this sweet little baby girl grow. She is such a calm sweet little spirit. We were able to attend her birthday party yesterday. She sure is loved and supported, that was evident by all who attended. She was definately the princess of the party. Happy Birthday Tatum, we love you.

Pinewood Derby

Last night was the ward Pinewood Derby.
It is always quite the event.
Above are the cars. Grandpa Turley helped Camdon build his and Camdon was very proud of the car. They have done this together for the last two years. Camdon wrote him a thank you note and said 'he was looking up to it next year too'. I guess you are not off the hook yet Grandpa.
Here they are just before the races began. They had to listen to the rules first. The cubmaster asked them, "What is the most important thing you need for the pinewood derby?" Camdon raised his hand and said "A car" His friend went second and said "Cub Scouts" Camdon went again and said "A track" They certainly were right but she was actually looking for 'good sportsmanship'.

The races have begun and they are excited!

Some of the older scouts thought it would be fun to roll around inside the tires. Here is Jaron in the tire.

Looking very handsome with his car at the photo op

Grandma Whipple and Savannah came to watch. Thanks for your support.

What a bunch of show-offs
Mr. Poser

Receiving his award for 'the most patriotic car'

Rootbeer floats for refreshment. Yum!

Here is a little video clip of Trevon riding in the tire.

Favorite "Child"

This morning when I was taking Camdon to chess club he was trying to convince me that I needed to buy his Spring pictures that he just got. I said, "Well I will look them over but we just had your picture taken at Christmas so I'm not sure." He said "Mom, I am your only child" I replied with "How do you figure that?" That smart boy simply said "Technically Jaron & Trevon are teenagers so I am your only child." He thought for a minute and said "I think that would also make me your favorite child, right Mom?" I guess he's got a valid point there.

Recipe for lemon curd

Zest and juice of 2 lemons
1 cup of sugar
1/2 cup butter
3 whole eggs
1 egg yolk
Put zest, juice, butter & sugar in a glass bowl. Microwave for 1 minute and stir. Microwave for another minute and whisk well until butter is melted and sugar is dissolved. In a seperate bowl, whisk the eggs and additional yolk well. Add a little of the lemon mixture to warm up the eggs and then whisk the eggs into the lemon mixture. Microwave on high for 30 seconds, whisk, and repeat this process until mixture is thick and creamy. Usually takes about 5 times of microwaving and whisking. Can be refrigerated for 2-3 weeks. Good on toast, scones, etc.

Lemon Curd & Homemade Bread

These are 2 of my favorite things. Lemon Curd & Homemade Bread. Two of the most delectable things on this earth. I am sure that most of you have had homemade bread at one time or another but what about lemon curd? We had a nice surprise this morning when Grandpa Turley popped by to bring us a loaf of his homemade bread. This special occasion called for the making of lemon curd. We have a lemon tree and so that was easy to do. Boy is it good stuff.

Family Celebrations

Congratulations to Caden (LL's son) who made all state band. They performed yesterday and we had the privilege of hearing him play. It was wonderful and we are glad that we could go. Good job Caden, keep up the good work.
We also had a birthday celebration for Carder who is 1 year old. He enjoyed his cake wholeheartedly! It was so much fun to watch him.
Here he is with Jaron, sharing some cake with him. Yummy.

Kamrielle helped open presents (of course)

We had some Wii Sports competition going on and even Grandma got involved.

The 1st video is of the tickle me elmo that Jaron gave Carder. Pretty darn cute if you have never seen one in action.
The 2nd is my sister in action....
the confidence on this pro-bowler's face cracks me up.
Check out the video for yourself.

This is not an optical illusion

I debated about whether or not to post a picture of me with my new hair color but I decided that eventually there would be a picture of me on here anyway. I just didn't want to hear any negative comments because I really like it. Call it a wild hair, I don't know. Today was a day of change that's for sure. I have actually been thinking about this for about 6 months. Yes, I'm a thinker. I've been wanting to do something different with my hair but the thought of cutting it was really scary to me. So, I decided to go with color. Yes, it is drastic but I do like it. I have no regrets and want to say thank you to Jamie Lynn from Blossom Salon & Boutique. I also completely rearranged my family room today. Everything is so clean and I love that about moving furniture around. Well, if you have something good to say I would love to hear from you. Otherwise..please just keep it to yourself. Thanks!!!

Sleepover

I've been able to do lots of fun things with my nieces lately. I invited Zale to come over and have a sleepover at our house Monday night. Guess what we did.....that's right, we made blocks. Didn't they turn out so cute, she did such a good job on them. She is a beautiful young lady and I am so glad that she got to come spend some time with us. Love ya Zale!

Mountain Man Jaron

Jaron has been preparing to go to Mountain Man Rendevous for quite some time now. They week has arrived and he will soon be leaving to embark on a great experience in his life. We are really excited for him.
On Sunday he was trying all of his stuff on so that we could see what we still needed to do and of course I had to snap a few pictures.

This is not really his hat, he just threw a skunk pelt on his head for looks. We went to my Dad's after this and he let Jaron borrow some of his Mountain Man gear and it is some great stuff. I will have to take more pictures with him modeling some of it. My mom took some, maybe she will post on her blog.

Have Fun Jaron!!!

What a day

What a fun, busy, happy, tiring day Friday was....
I got to watch 2 nieces and a nephew
I was really hoppin trying to keep up with these two. They are five days apart and for not walking yet, they sure get around well and found plenty to get into.
Jaron got out of school early and helped out alot.

Kamrielle was my helper as well. They loved to pull these movies out and Kamrielle was trying to pick them up as fast as they were pulling them out.
Isn't she a cute little thing

It was a fun day and I am so glad that I get to have them once in a while.
Thanks for sharing your beautiful children with me.

Happy Birthday Tim

Today is my brother Tim's birthday. I wanted to take this opportunity to let all of the ladies know that he is single. He'll just love that. Tim is a hard worker and quite the handsome guy.
He likes to be outside and loves to go hiking.
He is kind to others and is pretty quiet.
He cracks up pretty easily and I love to hear him laugh because you just can't help but laugh yourself. He especially likes to watch the nieces and nephews and the funny things they do. Tim, we hope that your birthday is a great one and we want you to know that we love you. We are looking forward to dinner with you tomorrow night. See you soon.

A great day!

Well this post is kindof all over the place...sorry
Tonight we went and saw this movie. We thought that it was pretty funny and laughed through most of it. Trevon picked it since it was his birthday and it was a good choice.
For dinner he wanted Green Chili Chicken Casserole
Caesar Salad

and I made lemon cookies

I wanted to get a picture with the Birthday boy.

and to see if I could still lift this big guy
Well, I almost did it! (Oops just deleted that picture on accident)
Happy Birthday Trev! Love ya tons.

Yesterday, we had his birthday dinner with the Turley side.
Here we are singing Happy Birthday to him.
